Volkert van der Wijk is an Assistant Professor in Deployable Mechanisms and Static/Dynamic balancing at Delft University of Technology (NL) in the research group of Mechatronic System Design. Since 2007 dynamic balancing has been his main topic of research and he is the founder of the inherent dynamic balance method to consider dynamic balance as starting point in the design. From an early age he has been working also as a sculptor of kinetic art (www.kineticart.nl). In 2008 he obtained a MSc. Degree (cum laude) in biomechanical engineering at the Delft University of Technology (NL) and in 2014 he obtained a PhD. Degree (cum laude) at the University of Twente (NL).
